Check out these photos of an abandoned leper colony in New York City

These photos, taken by Ian Ference, were taken on North Brother Island, a former leper colony/quarantine zone. The location? 350 yards from the Bronx, in Hell Gate, a terrifyingly named narrow strait in the East River.

Do definitely click Ian’s name for the full story and the most photos, or this link to The Daily Mail story about the place. The whole thing doesn’t even seem real to me. I’d love to go visit and be creeped out the whole time. Something tells me there’s a high concentration of sulfur and small, freezing drafts there, if you know what I mean Supernatural fans. I refuse to apologize for that reference.
