St. Vincent did an awesome thing on Conan, then performed an awesome song

As if to cleanse the palate after that debacle of a Lana Del Ray performance* on SNL, St. Vincent took the stage at the end of Conan’s show one day this week to perform her song, Cheerleader. And my goodness, it was great. First, she paid homage to a famous Elvis Costello moment, in which he and his band played a song not welcome by Lorne Michaels on SNL, after beginning to play a song that he did approve, then stopping, and performing the old switcheroo. You need only watch the first 30 seconds of this video to see what I mean:

Elvis Costello - Radio Radio, SNL, 1977 from jmannen77 on Vimeo.

Read the full story on that moment at the link just above. Anyway, here’s the clip of the St. Vincent performance, homage and all.

Just fantastic.

*Seriously, it was like watching a drugged mannequin singing up there. Through a voice changer. That performance was gross to my ears.
